Spotlight on Improv and The Comedy Pigs

Guaranteed to evoke peels of laughter, chuckles, guffaws, and a plethora of smiles from every audience member in attendance, The Comedy Pigs just celebrated their 20 year anniversary performing as a comedic improv theater group. The Comedy Pigs

The Comedy Pigs performs improv shows primarily at the Maryland Ensemble Theater (MET) in Frederick, MD where the group maintains a very loyal fan base and local following.

“The first time I saw a Comedy Pigs show was when I came to Frederick for school.  It was such a good show and an experience that was so funny I never forgot it.  It made me realize that I wanted to become more involved with theater,” Hood College student Courtney Laperley said.

Often referred to affectionately as “The Pigs,” the group practices at least once a week to perfect their skills as improv comedians; a form of theater that does not involve scripted words, but spontaneous suggestions and thoughts that create characters, settings, and scenes.

The Comedy Pigs perform sketch and musical comedy in a, but primarily short form improv games, similar to comedy shows such as “Whose Line is it Anyway” and “The Kids in the Hall.”

These games frequently involve audience participation and often contain a humorous twist, such as “The Marshmallow Game,” where the Pigs stuff marshmallows in their mouths whenever an audience member laughs or “Party Quirks,” that involves one Comedy Pig to guess the identity of three celebrity party guests that all harbor a unique and unnatural personality trait.
